About the Band

The Hudson Highlands Pipe Band was founded in Cold Spring in 2005 by a small group of local bagpipe players, and made its debut at the Memorial Day Parade. As interest grew, more players joined, and we began teaching new students at the Cold Spring Fire House. What started as a handful of pipers and drummers quickly expanded to over 30 members. We began competing in bagpipe competitions at Highland Games and performing at regional parades and public events like the Riverkeeper Shadfest, along with many other appearances.

The band had the honor of performing on stage with The Chieftains during several of their iconic St. Patrick's Day concerts at Carnegie Hall, The Town Hall, and NJPAC. We were also preparing to join them onstage for their farewell tour, "An Irish Goodbye," at NJPAC, but sadly, the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

In 2022, the Pipe Band was honored to be invited to Manchester, England, to participate in the commemoration of the 102nd anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. Coincidentally, our visit aligned with the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, and our performances included a solemn tribute to Her Majesty, which was broadcast by the BBC.

Last June, we had the privilege of performing at the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings in Normandy, France. Alongside hundreds of pipers and drummers, we played at landing zones, battle sites, and cemeteries, paying tribute to the countless individuals from around the world who united to defeat fascism.

The Pipe Band has proudly hosted an annual Burns Night Supper since 2008 at various local venues, including the Highlands Country Club and the Roundhouse. This year marked our first event since the Covid lockdown, and we made a strong return at the Valley Inn at The Garrison. We welcomed a full house of 110 guests and showcased outstanding performances by professional musicians, including piper Jeremy Freeman and drummers Nick Parr and Jake Otto. The talented Celtic group, T. McCann Band, provided lively evening music alongside Hudson Highland Pipe Band performances.
